Workplace & Leadership coaching

Most of us like to feel the satisfaction of a job well done, but we can sometimes become stuck with a project, plan or work situation that keeps us thinking about it at the end of the day, or struggling to know what to do next.

Whether you’re in a professional role, an experienced manager, or transitioning into a leadership position, workplace and leadership coaching can provide the support needed to find purpose, direction and fulfilment in your work, and success in your career. Together, we’ll focus on your unique strengths to help you thrive in your role.

Workplace coaching, also known as professional coaching, business coaching or career coaching, is a collaborative process that helps you develop your professional skills, overcome challenges, and achieve professional goals. Whether you are aiming to reach a goal, enhance performance, navigate career transitions or establish a small business, workplace coaching provides a structured environment for your growth.

It can be rewarding to work in a leadership position, but it can also be isolating or daunting. I am here to help. Leadership coaching provides a supportive and collaborative environment to help you to develop self-awareness about your leadership style and explore your leadership challenges. It can help decision-making, communication, conflict resolution, confidence and team-building skills, empowering you to become a more resilient and effective leader.

As a result, Melinda helped me uncover deeper motivations and clarify my strengths and values, enabling me to tackle procrastination and prioritise work that aligns with my purpose. I highly recommend Melinda to anyone seeking transformative coaching.” — Tara Watson, Business Owner, Parent Connections.

Leadership coaching can provide the guidance and tools needed to find satisfaction in your work, and success in your career. Some of the benefits include:

1. Enhanced Self-Awareness

Coaching helps you develop a deeper understanding of your strengths, competencies, and areas for development. This self-awareness allows you to make more informed decisions, improve communication, and lead with confidence.

2. Improved Leadership Skills

Leadership coaching sharpens essential skills like decision-making, conflict resolution, and team management. It also promotes emotional intelligence, helping leaders build stronger, more empathetic relationships with their teams.

3. Increased Job Satisfaction

By aligning your personal values with your professional goals, coaching can help you find greater meaning and satisfaction in your work. This leads to increased motivation and engagement in your role.

4. Better Stress Management and Resilience

Coaching provides support and strategies to help you address workplace pressures and navigate complex workplace challenges.

5. Stronger Communication and Collaboration

Effective communication is key in any workplace, and coaching helps you enhance these skills. From managing challenging conversations to fostering a culture of open dialogue, coaching strengthens your ability to connect and collaborate with others.

6. Navigating Organisational Change

Whether it’s adapting to new leadership or restructuring, organisational change can be disruptive and challenging. Workplace coaching helps you to navigate these transitions, helping you stay focused, resilient and make decisions that support your career direction.

7. Increased Confidence and Decision-Making

Coaching helps you develop confidence in your role and shake off any imposter feelings. You will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of your strengths and capabilities, helping you develop clear goals and take more decisive actions in your role.

8. Support for Career and Business Development

Whether you’re seeking a promotion, transitioning into a new role, or setting up a new business, coaching helps you to face challenges, generate options, make decisions and work toward success in your professional life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between coaching, counselling, mentoring and consulting?

Counselling focuses on your emotional responses and needs. Mentoring involves problem solving, sharing of experience and advice from someone more experienced in your specialist field (e.g. counselling or law).  Coaching is future goal and action focused, drawing out your opinions and ideas. Consultants provide subject matter expertise and advice, often to organisations.

What is your experience in leadership coaching?

I have provided leadership coaching to the Family Violence Command at Victoria Police, where I worked with sergeants, senior sergeants and an inspector. I have also applied a leadership coaching approach with a number of experienced and new social work and clinical leaders in supervision in my private practice. I am passionate about supporting managers to become people focused leaders and have a particular interest in supporting people who are new to leadership roles or taking up higher level leadership.

How often are leadership coaching sessions?

Leadership coaching sessions are generally offered in 6-session blocks to work on a specific goal or issue. Sessions are typically scheduled every 2 to 4 weeks to allow time to work on your goals between sessions. I offer a regular day and time to ensure consistency. Coaching sessions are one hour.

Are leadership coaching sessions online or in-person?

I mostly offer online video sessions but can provide in-person sessions for organisations in Sydney.

How is leadership coaching different to supervision for managers?

I work with managers in leadership coaching as well as in supervision. Leadership coaching targets a specific area that a manager would like to change or improve over a shorter period of time. Discussion focuses on understanding your leadership style and working toward a specific goal. In regular monthly supervision, there is scope to discuss a range of leadership situations as well as clinical or other issues in general discussion.

What is the leadership coaching process?
  • Introductory Consult: In the first free 15-minute phone consultation we will clarify your professional needs and expectations, discuss how coaching works, answer any questions and determine if my style suits your needs.
  • Initial Assessment Session: In our first 60-minute coaching session, we will reflect on the situation that brought you to coaching, clarify what you would like to achieve, explore your strengths and areas for development, and start to make a goal and a plan. You will also have the opportunity to complete self-awareness assessment tools in between sessions.
  • Sessions: In the following 4 x sessions we will continue to work together to help you move toward realising your goal. I will give you a written summary of each session and follow-up activities between sessions to keep you focused on your goal.
  • Final Session: In the final session 6 we will review where you are in relation to your goal and set future steps.
What is the fee for leadership coaching?

Workplace and leadership one-to-one coaching is $350 per hour. A recommended 6-session program attracts a 10% discount with upfront payment. Fees are reviewed annually.

Will my director be involved in my leadership coaching?

That is up to you. Some coachees have been encouraged to attend coaching by their senior manager to help them work on a skill, gain confidence or address an issue. You may choose to involve your manager in the initial and review sessions, or not. Some people find it useful, others don’t. And you decide how much you would like to report to your manager about your progress in the sessions. I take confidentiality seriously.
